What’s A Bedroom?
August 30th, 2008 By Peter G. Miller
A bedroom is not merely where someone sleeps.
Please check local zoning regulations. They may require an external exit (such as a window with a bottom sill not more than 44 inches above the ground and 5.7 square feet of space when open). Or, they may require that a “bedroom” cannot itself be an entrance or exit to another “room.”
If a room is not a “bedroom” but is used for that purpose there could be substantial insurance problems — as well as dangers to the occupant.
For specifics, call your local building inspector’s office.
